Healthy News: The Story of Aaron Baker

All That I Am

Prior to Aaron Bakers injury, he was a professional motocross racer. May 26, 1999 Aaron crashed while practicing, breaking cervical vertebras 4-5-6 in his neck. Lying in the dirt motionless Aaron realized that he was no longer a professional motorcycle rider, or skate boarder, surfer, snowboarder, mountain biker, or even a simple fisherman. At that moment Aaron realize that he was destined to do far greater things in his life than winning championships aboard a motorcycle.

While in the hospital Aaron's neurosurgeon diagnosed him as a complete quadriplegic, having only a one in a million chance of regaining any function below his level of injury. Through his intense desire to optimize the quality of his life, through eternal optimism and exercise Aaron has been able to focus his mind and energy resulting in a slow tedious return of function and strength.

The news from neurosurgeons only drove Aaron to work harder. He set out on a journey, and he has come very far since that tragic day in 1999. Aaron has set goals on making the US Paralympic Team as a road biker. He has already biked across the country, blown away doctor's expectation and continues to work toward his goal of 120% recovery.

"I am an athlete, mentally, physically, and emotionally. I choose to face my challenges and to rise above and overcome with excellence! I am committed to inspiring not only through my words but my actions. I am of the philosophy that 'what the mind can conceive and believe you truly can achieve.'  I am honored to have the opportunity to share my experiences and to influence people in the world of spinal cord injury and disability."  -Aaron Baker

Healthy News: The Story of Marlon Gibson

I Lost Weight!

Marlon Gibson was a married man who was addicted to food...fried food and sweets in particular. One day, while witnessing his wife cry as they watched The Biggest Loser, Marion decided that he needed to change the way he lived. Marion immediately went online and bought a gym membership, hired a personal trainer and went to work.

When Marlon began his journey he would join fitness classes and do 25% of the reps. As he progressed he would move onto 50%, and so on and so forth. Marlon now does 100% of the reps and the rest of the class can barely keep up with him. Marlon is down to 155 pounds, has completely changed his diet and exercises multiple times each day.
